CNC Turning Setter
Job Definition
The Production Setter/Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring CNC machines to manufacture precision components to customer specifications. The role ensures parts are produced safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards, supporting company objectives of On Time Delivery (OTD), On Time In Full (OTIF), and right-first-time production.
Responsibilities
Machine Set-Up & Preparation
Prepare and set up CNC machines in accordance with production requirements |Load tooling and fixtures, ensuring correct alignment and calibration | Prove out programs and conduct first-off inspections, working with Quality to verify conformance | Adjust feeds, speeds, and offsets as required to achieve dimensional accuracy | Return allocated tooling, fixtures, excess or scrap materials and or spares at the end of each job completion.
Operation & Production
Operate machines and equipment to produce components in line with technical drawings, CAD models, and specifications | Monitor machine performance, identifying and resolving minor issues during production | Carry out in-process checks to ensure components meet tolerances | Record production data accurately in line with ERP/MRP or shop floor data collection systems | Work to achieve productivity, efficiency, and quality targets.
Time Monitoring & Schedule
Adherence Monitor allocated times against actual times, ensuring scheduled activities are completed within expected timeframes | Highlight and escalate any deviations that may impact planned completion timeframe | Work in line with production schedules | Provide accurate feedback to Team Leaders and Production Planners on actual vs. planned job timings.
Quality & Compliance
Ensure all work meets quality standards and customer specifications | Support quality inspections, escalating non-conformances where required | Maintain accurate and complete batch/traceability records | Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions consistently.
Maintenance & Housekeeping
Conduct basic preventative maintenance, cleaning, and care of machines and tooling | Report breakdowns or major issues promptly to maintenance/engineering teams | Ensure a clean, safe, and organised work environment at all times, in line with 5S standards.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
Work with Production and Team Leaders to identify opportunities to reduce cycle times, scrap, and rework | Provide feedback on tooling, programs, and fixtures to improve future runs |Support training of junior operators and apprentices | Participate in lean and continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills
Skill in operating CNC turning machinery and tooling as well as precision measurement tools
Ability to read and interpret mechanical documents and drawings
Computer savvy with understanding of computer programming and CAD/CAM
Mechanical aptitude and good math skills
A keen eye for detail and results-driven approach
Good communication abilities
