ActionPlas took the giant step into apprenticeships last year, and after an initial rocky start we can now see what huge benefits can be gained from them.

So we've done it again!

Welcome Nathan, Waiz and Jacob our apprentices for 2019.

Waiz and Jacob will join Jordan, our superstar 2018 apprentice, training on CNC Machining, whilst Nathan is our inaugural Design Technician apprentice.

As with Jordan, all academic training is to be completed with the support of Appris Engineering College, Bradford.

Welcome Nathan, Waiz and Jacob to ActionPlas family!

2nd July 2019

Actionplas took the giant step into apprenticeships in 2018.

It was a challenging start when the initial three apprentices very quickly reduced to one. But what a one we have!

Jordan has excelled all expectations, he's shown huge initiative and has even brought a new lease of life to the shop floor. He very quickly became an integral part of the team, and his keen and questioning nature has seen him progress beyond the level of training required.

This was highlighted last week when he very proudly accepted the Personal Achievement Award at Appris Engineering College for all his hard work over the last academic year.

Very Well Done Jordan, keep it up over the coming years!

23th July 2018

Last week we teamed up with Made in Yorkshire to host a breakfast networking event for all MiY members.

The morning comprised of a tour of our facilities and a presentation about our company, followed by a chance to network before the event officially ended. It was a great way to meet all other MiY members, and to showcase our 5S strategy, as well as our new apprenticeship program that is commencing this September.

We would like to thank Made in Yorkshire for the opportunity, and a thank you to everybody who attended the event.

Throughout April and May, John took part in a series of 3 challenges to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Our ActionPlas sales director, John, has been very busy over the last few months, partaking in a number of activities in order to raise money for our chosen charity of the year, the Great Ormond Street Hospital. First John swapped his work shoes for trainers as he tackled the very muddy Yorkshire Warrior obstacle course. There wasn’t much time for him to relax as he then went on to conquer the Bradford 10K just a week later. Surely two physically-straining challenges wasn’t enough for John. For the final event, we saw John and Judd tackle the Leeds half marathon and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky as they both passed the finish line. We even received a tweet from the Great Ormond Hospital congratulating John and Judd on their achievement of completing the event!

Our team at ActionPlas would like to celebrate John for his achievement in finishing all three events, managing to raise a grand total of £330 for the Great Ormond Street charity. You truly are helping to make a difference, John. If you wish to donate and help raise money for an incredibly worthy cause, you can still donate money by clicking here.

Keep updated with us for future fundraising challenges later on in the year.

This September we’re introducing an apprenticeship scheme that aims to recruit the next generation of engineers.

Working closely with Appris, a Bradford-based charity organisation dedicated to providing specialist apprenticeship training for young people, we’re looking to recruit three Level 3 apprentices that will work in our CNC Milling, Turning and Fabrication & Routing departments.

“We’re really excited about investing in our local economy and to be able to create these brilliant opportunities for young Yorkshire residents entering the local workforce,” said Chris Wray, managing director at ActionPlas.

“We are enjoying fantastic success following recent investment in facilities, staff and machinery, with huge demand for our innovative products so this is the perfect opportunity for anyone with determination, talent and enthusiasm. We can help to build new careers while ensuring our customers continue to enjoy a high-quality service.”

Kenny Stoddart, Operations Director at Appris said: “It’s fantastic that a leading Yorkshire-based manufacturer, such as ActionPlas, is offering apprenticeships to the local community – it’s a fantastic way to future proof their workforce and for young people to see there are alternative routes to finding a skilled and rewarding career in engineering and manufacturing.”

“Engineering plays a vital role in driving the UK economy and the demand for qualified engineers is well recognised by employers, the engineering profession and the government.”

We've already attracted excellent candidates from local comprehensive school and sixth form, Pudsey Grangefield School. If you're a determined, talented and enthusiastic individual with an interest in developing a career in engineering, you can register here:

ActionPlas, one of the UK’s leading speciality machinists and supplier of plastics, has reaped the benefits of its 2017 warehouse expansion with impressive quarterly sales – up 47% year on year.

In 2017, we expanded into a new warehouse at our headquarters at Grangefield Industrial Estate in Richardshaw Road, boosting our space by 13,000 square feet to 25,000 square feet.

In the first four months following the move, sales rose by 12% compared to the previous quarter and up 47% on the same quarter in the previous financial year. Since October, we have secured seven new customers – a record quarterly haul!

New machinery, including a Mini Mill and Vertical Panel Saw, has been installed to increase processing speeds and the ability to offer faster delivery and improved quality for bespoke cutting.

A recruitment drive has also led to the appointment of a graduate mechanical design engineer, two additional CNC machine operatives and an internal sales trainee.

Chris Wray, managing director at ActionPlas, said: “Our investment in facilities, staff and machinery has borne fruit, with fantastic performances in both sales and customer acquisition. We will continue to invest and evolve to cement our role as the country’s leading speciality machinists and plastics suppliers, delivering high quantities in rapid turnaround times.”

30th June 2017

Here at ActionPlas, we are delighted to announce significant investment in personnel, new machinery and an expansion of our production facilities (by an additional 13,000 square feet to 25,000 square feet), as a strong commitment to supporting our customer base.

New state-of-the-art machinery, including an innovative hybrid CNC production system combining heavy-duty routing with fast knife cutting, provides increased processing speeds and the ability for increased customisation.

The AXYZ Trident 6010 7G CNC Router’s oscillating knife will allow us to process thinner, flexible materials including foam core and corrugated plastic, delivering clean cut edges without fraying. We can now also process thicker, softer materials and quickly achieve exact alignment with printed shapes.

The purchase of two Haas Mini-Mill 2 Vertical Machining Centres offers increased our milling capacity and high-speed processing capabilities.

Our financial injection is a sign of the commitment and dedication we have towards supporting the production, continuous improvement and growth plans of our customer base.

Large investment has also been made to the ActionPlas workforce, which has grown by 11 new employees since 2015, as we welcomed new team members in sales, human resources and production. Further positions are due to be announced following the recent investments, with vacancies both regionally & nationally across sales, design and management expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Details of the vacancies will be published on the ActionPlas website.

The expansion into a new warehouse at our Grangefield Industrial Estate headquarters - one of the principal industrial estates of Leeds - has grown both production and stock space.

Chris Wray, Managing Director at ActionPlas, said: “In line with our growth strategy and to meet an increasing demand for our products, we have made significant investment in our workplace, machinery and personnel to allow for increased output, shorter lead times and the ability to take on more work.”

“We’re confident that our continued investment in innovation and technology will help us achieve the growth in capacity and capability we need to support new projects, future-proof our business and ensure we can continue to offer our customers a complete, high-quality service, while remaining flexible to evolving trends.”
